Mr. Barnstead holds a Master's degree from Northwestern University in Trombone Performance, and a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Furman University.
Mr. Barnstead performed as second trombone with the American Wind Symphony of Pittsburgh, PA, He has also performed as featured soloist with the Charlotte Queen City Brass Band. Other performances include the Millar Brass Ensemble of Chicago, the Charlotte Philharmonic, The Charlotte Repertoire Orchestra, The Old English Wind Ensemble, the Palmetto Concert Band, Embassy Brass Quintet of Columbia, and the Palmetto Pousanen. He currently is a member of the Northwinds Symphonic Band of Gainesville, GA.
Mr. Barnstead has previously served on the music faculty at Lander University in Greenwood, SC as Low Brass Instructor, and as a High School and Middle School Band director in South Carolina 10 years. He has also been conductor of numerous honor bands throughout the Southeast. In addition to his duties at Fannin County High and Middle School, Mr. Barnstead is an adjunct music instructor at Young Harris College. Current professional affiliations include the Georgia Music Education Association, The National Band Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He currently serves on the Marching Band Committee for GMEA.
Mr. Barnstead is married to Julie Barnstead, music, art and drama teacher at West Fannin Elementary and the current colorguard instructor at Fannin High School. They have three beautiful children: Alex, Emma, and Lucas.
